Rotterdam-based artists Diephuis and Maj breathe new life into Ofra Haza’s sacred 1984 chant, “Im Nin’ Alu,” reimagining its spiritual essence through a contemporary Afro house lens. Their original mix unfolds with emotive depth – an organic house tapestry threaded with immersive percussion, celestial synth work, and Maj’s transcendent vocals echoing like prayers through the ether. The Beach Remix drifts toward balmy, sun-drenched terrain, trading introspection for buoyancy – its warm, rhythmic tides evoking the unity of nature and spirit. Manoo takes the reins with two transformative interpretations: his Club Remix pulses with hypnotic groove and ceremonial elegance, crafting a kinetic ritual where body and soul entwine on the dancefloor. In contrast, the Dub Remix strips back the layers to spotlight raw, elemental energy – basslines reverberate like ancient drums, sculpting a minimalist, meditative space where echoes of the divine linger in every drop. Together, the EP forms a sacred continuum, bridging past and present, earth and sky, through music that doesn’t just reinterpret tradition, but exalts it into something eternal.Words by Marie J Floro.
